Manhum Toru
We welcomed Manhum Toru to SCC last on a month long work experience schedule to aid with her family’s cheese project in Pakistan. Manhum graduated from Middlsex Univeristy with a BBA in Tourism and Hospitality Management.
She continued with further education and achieved a postgraduate in Culinary Management from the UAE. After pursuing a career in hospitality, she has now joined the family cheese and dairy business in Pakistan.
The family company, “The cheese and dairy factory” is a small local business set on the outskirts of Islamabad, established in 2005 as a dairy factory. Over time they have ventured into cheese and produce cheese products called “La vista”. The company’s flagship product is Italian mozzarella distributed predominantly to pizza parlours and other fast food joints, as well as mild cheddar. Their products is celebrated in domestic markets, but the demand for artisan or flavoured cheddar is dynamically increasing.
Entering a completely different segment in the Food Industry, Manhum thought it beneficial to have experience in the field, and so here she is with us at SCC. Manhum commented “so far it has been such an intellectually invigorating pleasure! I have been very fortunate to have been mentored by individuals who possess a copious amount of knowledge and understanding regarding this sector, and other mediating factors associated with this Industry”.
In the future Manhum hopes to integrate what she has learnt, in her words, “from the connoisseurs in this creamery” and provide a niche for a country that is still yet to explore the artisanal flavours of cheese.
