Nantwich International Cheese Show

Quite possibly the biggest cheese show in the world and one of the most prestigious events in the food calendar is the International Cheese Show which is held each July at Nantwich. As this is such a respected event in the cheese world, South Caernarfon Creameries trades Chwilog for Cheshire and gets actively involved.

Our experienced cheese graders undertake a key role and form part of the judging team that blind taste, rate and bestow awards on the best in class of a whole host of regional and international cheeses, which this year saw entries of 5000 cheese and dairy products from 27 countries.

Each year, The South Caernarfon Creameries Award is bestowed to the Best Welsh Cheese. When sponsoring this trophy we wanted to ensure that our trophy stood out from the mass of silverware. We wanted something that was exceptionally Welsh in design and style so what could be more fitting than our trophy for Best Welsh Cheese being made from a striking piece of Welsh slate!

Our cheese enjoyed success with our Sliced Cheese and innovative display of cheese on a cheeseboard both scooping awards.

“Awards like these provide an invaluable benchmark of quality for producers. The competition at the International Cheese Awards is particularly tough as there are so many entries. Receiving prestigious awards for our Dragon brand enables us to showcase the exceptional product range that we produce” explains Alan Wyn-Jones, Managing Director. “Products are blind tasted and therefore the focus is purely on taste and quality rather than the brand or elaborate packaging.

At the 2016 event, our NPD Manager Linda Lewis-Williams met with eminent Chef and TV personality James Martin and Will Holland, Chef at Coast Restaurant named AA Restaurant of the Year Wales 2015-2016 who were demonstrating at the two day show.
