Nominated for National Co-op Award
Excellent news! South Caernarfon Creameries is in the running to be named Co-operative of the Year 2017 in a UK-wide competition and we’re asking members of the public to show their support in a bid to take the top prize. Members of the public can vote online for the Creamery by visiting www.uk.coop/COTY before midnight on 25 June.
The Creamery has been shortlisted in the ‘Leading Co-operative of the Year’ category following clear evidence of ongoing business success and for having a clear strategy to secure and develop its future for members. Over the past year, South Caernarfon Creameries has invested in a multi-million pound cheese production and cheese packing facility that has enabled the company to increase capacity by 25 per cent and also created 20 new jobs. The production facility was officially opened on 5th July 2016 by The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall. Shortly after opening the new production facility, the Creamery was awarded the contract to supply Sainsbury’s with their national Basics Cheese range of 13 products. The co-operative now also supplies a range of Welsh Cheddar cheese following a further new contract award with Lidl UK.
Alan Wyn-Jones, Managing Director of South Caernarfon Creameries, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Leading Co-operative award. Our farming co-operative was established in 1938 and we are proud of our successes. All of our family owned member farmers who supply us with their milk own a share in the company and as such are at the core of everything that we do. Our objective is to deliver sustainable returns to our farmer members, this can only be achieved by being customer focused, efficient and being innovative and flexible to our customer needs. The company continues on its journey, we have made good progress in recent years but there remains plenty to do. The focus now is very much on ensuring that the investments made delivers for the benefit of our members and staff. We do hope that people will take the time to vote for us. Winning will be testament to all of the stakeholders in our co-operative creamery.”
